Summertime Camping with the Eagles in Adrian, Minnesota.
2009

The 39th annual Sixth District Campout was held July 17th, 18th and 19th at the Adrian Campgrounds in Adrian, MN.    There were 142 people registered and all six districts were represented.  Yes, we had people from each one of the six Minnesota districts in attendance, how awesome is that?    And we had the privilege of having the Aerie and Auxiliary state presidents, Cindy & Bruce Meyer and the Past Aerie and Auxiliary Presidents; Judy Spencer and John Batchelder.  Along with other state officers and past state presidents and the past auxiliary NCR president, Marge Reinke.

All the proceeds from this campout go to the Jimmy Durante Children’s Fund.  The festivities started Friday night with the hot dog roast with all the fixin’s and of course, beverages.  There were lots of meat raffles during the evening which netted lots of dollars for Jimmy Durante.  The White Elephant Auction was held Saturday morning with a bale rack full of “Stuff” for this remarkable event.  Brian the auctioneer did a great job in getting the bids so we could raise lots of money for Jimmy’s Kids.  The auction was followed by the traditional bean bag tournament where the winners once again donated the money back to Jimmy Durante.  Daryl Ruesh and Cody Falk claimed first place in the tournament.  There was also a grudge match between the North and South, I think it was the South that took the title.  The children were treated to games and prizes by Carol Krueger while the adults participated in the bean bag tournament. The Pot Luck supper followed the tournament with lots and lots of delicious food.  I’m sure no one went away hungry!    To top off all the morning and afternoon activities we had karaoke and the “Back to the Fifties” contest.  The theme was chosen by this year’s Sixth District Presidents Heidi Gubbins and Bill Rowe.  There were lots of poodle skirts, pony tails, cat-eye glasses, slicked back hair, white t-shirts (with the cigarette box in the sleeve), a couple of car hops and of course, Elvis.  Contest winners were:  1st – Ed (Elvis) and Linda Connell; 2nd – Joe and Pam Thiner and 3rd – Judy Spencer and Dottie Hietzman.  Great to see all the participation!  The music went on past midnight and it just wouldn’t be an Eagles’ campout without the Eagles song; “Where Eagles Fly” sung by Daryl Ruesch and Barry Ebeling.

Sunday morning offered coffee and donuts while the drawings were held for the Campout raffle and the door prizes.  Then we said our good byes.  What a great campout, we raised an incredible amount of money for the Jimmy Durante Children’s Fund.  The success happened because of all the people in attendance, thanks to each of you for all that you did.  We can be proud of the Sixth District!  Can’t wait until next year!
